Symptoms of adrenal stress:
- Brain fog
- Decreased libido
- Depression
- Constant fatigue, low energy levels
- Insomnia/inability to sleep through the night
- Weakened immune system
Common causes of adrenal stress:
- Lack of sleep: adrenals reset (along with body systems) between 11pm and early morning hours so when we cut into sleep time, we affect how our body is recharging
- Poor diet
- Lack of exercise
- Work stressors
7 ways you can begin to recover from adrenal fatigue:
- Control your sugar intake – this affects insulin release and puts stressors on the adrenals.
- Change your sleep schedule so you allow yourself at least 7 hours of good sleep a night. Try to go to bed by 10pm! Put all electronics away at least an hour before bed to allow your body to wind down.
- Eat a cleaner and healthier diet in order to give your body the nutrients it needs.
- Exercise regularly. Start out with what’s best for you – if you’re new to working out, start with walking and then add on!
- Take the time to relax and meditate! Practice deep breathing throughout the day. 10 seconds in, 10 seconds out. This creates vagal tone, which reduces the stress response in the body.
- Regular chiropractic care will keep your nervous system functioning optimally, which in turn will benefit the adrenals (and all body systems!)
- Add in B12! Not only is this good for energy, but also helps your adrenals! B12 is most effective when taken sublingually – this will give you the best absorption (so, make sure you take it under the tongue).
Remember: your adrenals didn’t burn out overnight – this is going to take some time to repair! It can take anywhere from a few months to a couple years to completely heal depending on the severity.
