During pregnancy, we want to make sure everything is optimal for both mom and baby!
Watching food intake, exercise, sleep habits, stress, and toxin exposure can have significant effects on the pregnancy for moms in Glen Allen and Richmond, VA. Inadequate nutrition during pregnancy can affect the proper development of the baby and increases the risk of future proper problems. We really want to focus on proper nutrient intake and eating “real food” during pregnancy.
Today we’re going to talk about a few certain foods that provide essential vitamins and nutrients to both mom and baby!
– Eggs: these are high in protein and contain large amounts of choline – which is needed for fetal brain development and lifelong memory enhancement!
– Bone Broth: the bone, skin, and connective tissues of animals are rich in protein, collagen, gelatin, glycine and minerals. This is a great electrolyte beverage with lots of vital nutrients!
– Leafy Greens: Nutritional powerhouses that are concentrated in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. They are the most abundant source of folate. All the nutrients in vegetables are fat-soluble, meaning they are best absorbed when consumed with healthy fat.
– Avocados: These contain good fats and are high in vitamins B, E, C, K as well as fiber and potassium! They also contain folate, which helps with fetal brain, skin, tissue, and spinal development.
– Full-Fat and Fermented Dairy Products: These are a significant source of K2, which is not widely available in our diets! This vitamin is essential for growth of the fetal skeleton and maintaining the mother’s skeletal bone density. It also helps to increase insulin sensitivity, which is important to help maintain normal blood sugar through pregnancy.
It’s not a “food” technically, but the last one is water! A lot of the time, fatigue, headaches, mood swings, anxiety and even brain fog can be signs of being dehydrated. Remember that during pregnancy, your body is absorbing water more than it previously did so make sure to stay hydrated and eating real foods!
This is going to help support a healthy baby and set yourself up for a wonderful pregnancy!
