CAN YOU PREVENT ARTHRITIS?

IS IT TRULY POSSIBLE TO PREVENT ARTHRITIS?

The most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis, which is also known as degenerative joint disease. It is experienced by 80% of people over 50 years of age and can begin in the teenage years. It brings with it pain, deformity and the tendency to limit joint movement throughout the body. Unfortunately, it usually does not announce its arrival. Rather, it comes on subtly, often with morning joint stiffness appearing as the initial symptom. From there, it progresses, becoming increasingly painful, especially with activity.

For many people, the assumption is that it is impossible to prevent arthritis of this kind. They feel that osteoarthritis is just a normal part of aging and that it goes hand in hand with normal “wear and tear” on the body. They also believe that nothing can be done about it.

IMPROVE YOUR UNDERSTANDING TO PREVENT ARTHRITIS

Understanding how osteoarthritis is caused, can help provide solutions in how to prevent it. Osteoarthritis is caused by an improper function (or motion) of the involved joints. When joints begin to move improperly, 90% of the time it causes no sensation. As a result, joint degeneration occurs, unknowingly. Joint degeneration and osteoarthritis are likely to impact everyone unless they actively work to make sure joints are working properly throughout life.

So, how can you prevent arthritis, knowing that its presence may not even be felt?

One answer is to be proactive about taking care of your joints at a younger age. Taking precautions in your 20s, 30s or 40s would help to reduce the impact and prevent arthritis from lowering quality of life in your 50’s and 60’s. But even people who experience daily pain and limited motion can benefit greatly from chiropractic care. It is never too late!

WHAT NOT TO DO

Taking proactive steps to prevent arthritis can have a significant impact, especially when effective chiropractic care is involved. Some common solutions being offered today are not really solutions at all. In fact, they can create even more problems in the body.

For example, it is common for people with arthritis to use drugs like aspirin, ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, etc. to fight the pain associated with arthritis. Sadly, these drugs, known as NSAIDs, come with dangerous side effects.

According to a UK research report in the journal PAIN, patients taking NSAIDs for at least two months show a risk of death at a rate of 1 in every 1,200 patients! In addition to this risk, 1 in 5 will have ulcers, about 1 in 70 have stomach pains/symptoms and 1 in 150 have ulcers that bleed. It was concluded that NSAIDs kill 3 times as many people as cancer of the cervix.

Given this information, I hope this you will want to consider looking at more natural ways to treat arthritis. People who want to prevent arthritis or treat its symptoms long term should avoid these types of drugs.
